The Slovak Volleyball Federation just signed a 1-year contract with Gulinelli which may be prolonged for another year. The appointment of the 55-year old Gulinelli was announced during a press conference held on Thursday in Bratislava.
“We have good experiences with Italian coaches and this is one of the reasons why we contacted Gulinelli” said the President of the Slovak Volleyball Federation Lubor Halanda. “We have been discussing this opportunity with Gulinelli for about a month and we came to an agreement last Tuesday as we met in Milan. Gulinelli is a very good coach with international experience and we believe that we have made a good choice. I hope he will be driving our national team to more success with our priority being to qualify for the 2014 World Championships in Poland and for the Final Round of the 2015 European Championship taking place in Bulgaria and Italy” Halanda added.
Gulinelli could not attend the press conference but he answered the questions of the journalists on a video conference call. “I am very proud and happy to be appointed the head coach of the Slovak national team. It is a real pleasure for me to coach this group which includes very good players. I know the Slovak players who have been playing in Italy and also Lukas Divis who has since moved to Russia. I am looking forward to working with these guys. I will start my work immediately because in two months we will play for a spot in the 2014 World Championship via the third-round qualifier in Poprad” Gulinelli – who is also the mentor of Russian top team Ural UFA – said.
