The gold cup of the European Women’s Volleyball Championship has arrived in Croatia, which is a co-host of the European Championship, which is being played in Zadar from August 18th to 27th. Along with Croatia, the hosts are Bulgaria, Romania and Serbia.
The Croatian Volleyball Association has chosen the attractive location of the Skywalk Promenade in the Biokovo Nature Park, which offers a view of the Makarska coast and islands. The symbolic and strong location of our national team is an incentive for the best possible placement at the Championship.
“We are very pleased that we had the opportunity to present the winning trophy on the Heavenly Promenade. This wonderful memory will remain in our memory forever. The dream of every athlete is to one day hold such a cup in their hands and we are really honored that Croatia is one of the four hosts of the European Championship,” – pointed out the vice-captain of the Croatian volleyball team Martina Šamadan and added: “In the next three weeks we will continue with the preparations and look forward to the European Championship.”
The gold cup, including a wooden base, measures 74 cm and weighs 9.6 kilograms. It is handmade and its design reflects the modern, fresh and young CEV label. Some parts are hand-carved. The trophy is gilded in a galvanic bath of 24 carats of gold. The making of the cup took as long as three months. This is truly an iconic, dazzling trophy that shows the expertise, skills and knowledge of many craftsmen. It was produced in 2019 in Italy. GDE Bertoni, in addition to this, has produced a number of important international trophies, such as those awarded to FIFA World Cup winners, the UEFA Champions League, the UEFA Europa League and many other elite competitions.
“I am extremely honored to promote the European Championship in such a beautiful place. The final preparations are underway, the team is making great progress. This Championship is extremely important for us because we play at home and we want to show the best game we can,”- says the selector of the Croatian volleyball team Daniele Santarelli.
The image from the Heavenly Promenade travels to all countries of Europe. Upon their arrival, our national team members were greeted by the director of the Biokovo Nature Park Slavo Jakša and the Mayor of Makarska Zoran Paunović, who wished our national team a good wind in the back and wished them a lot of success at the European Championships. A particularly emotional moment was when the women’s band Fjoret performed the Croatian anthem “Our Beautiful Homeland”. It is this image that travels to Europe today.
The European Championship is played by Croatia from August 18th to September 4th in Zadar. Zadar is the host of Group C, in which, along with Croatia, the national teams of Italy, Belarus, Slovakia, Hungary and Switzerland will play.
