Even though they are unable to count on their main star Zhu Ting (she will undergo surgery), the titleholders Tianjin are playing on a high level in the 2021 China Telecom National Championship and got two wins out of two games. In the second round, Tianjin prevailed over bronze medalists Shanghai 3-1 (25-22, 27-25, 33-35, 25-21).

Young opposite hitter Chen Boya (21), who was projected to act as a backup to Cuban Melissa Vargas (didn’t make her debut yet) excels at the start of the new season and it remains to be seen how the Tianjin head coach Wang Baoquan will share the minutes on the court between these two in the coming period. Chen scored 34 points. The number of balls that went to her in the attack was surreal – 81!

Shandong staged an upset, managing to beat vice-champions Jiangsu. The club from Laiwu scored a clear 3-0 win, which they earned mostly thanks to Du Qingqing (17 points).
