Yan Ni, known in the world of volleyball by the nickname ’Great Wall of China’, bid her professional career farewell. The 34-year-old middle blocker had a second thought on playing one more season but ultimately decided it was time to say goodbye to active playing.

Yan Ni has been an indispensable part of the China National Team since 2014, being involved in winning seven gold medals during that period, of course, the most important of those was claimed at the 2016 Rio Olympics. Other gold medals are at the Asian Cup in 2014, Asian Championship and FIVB World Cup in 2015, FIVB World Grand Champions Cup in 2017, Asian Games in 2018, and FIVB World Cup in 2019. Yan Ni was named MVP and Best Middle Blocker of the Asian Cup in 2014, and Best Middle Blocker of the Asian Championship in 2015, FIVB World Championship 2018, and FIVB World Cup in 2019.

She is the legend of Liaoning, the club for which she has been uninterruptedly competing since 2014.
