Rosario won Cup
The final was a competitive match, naturally decided only in the tie-breaker with Rosario, the debuting team from Porto, coming out on top, after being down by two sets, thus ending the victorious streak of Ribeirense LAJES DO PICO, which has won the previous three editions.
The rookie achieved an exciting U-turn to claim the final victory by 3-2 (21-25, 19-25, 25-18, 25-19, 15-7).
“We have a very young team that may have dealt poorly with the pressure in the opening sets, but we fought our way back into the game,” Rosario’s captain Vanessa Rodrigues stated. “We began to be more accurate and despite both teams being tired we managed to maintain our best performance. Luckily we won the cup after being 0:2 and therefore the team must be congratulated. The championship is another competition – Rosario and Ribeirense will battle for the national title. We are going to celebrate this victory but we will begin to prepare for the playoff with a clear mind on Tuesday. Ribeirense is the favorite and will try to win the championship for the fourth consecutive year.”
