Iranian media outlets have recently reported that Belgian expert Vital Heynen is the front-runner for the head coach position of Iran’s men’s national volleyball team.
The search for a new coach follows the team’s disappointing performance in the 2023 FIVB Volleyball Nations League and their struggles in the Olympic qualifiers, jeopardizing their chances for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Apart from Heynen, the Iranian Volleyball Federation had reportedly been in discussions with several other notable coaches, including Gianlorenzo Blengini, Roberto Piazza, and Vladimir Alekno. Iranian coaches Peyman Akbari and Saeid Marouf were also considered for the role.
Sources suggest that the Federation is leaning towards finalizing an agreement with Heynen, who would replace Behrouz Ataei.
