Mursa Osijek Nears Title After Another 3-1 Win Over Mladost
Mursa Osijek moved one step closer to clinching the Croatian volleyball championship with a second 3-1 victory over Mladost Zagreb in the finals. Playing in front of an enthusiastic home crowd, Osijek repeated their Game 1 performance with set scores of 25:23, 25:17, 20:25, and 25:19.
Although Mladost had control early in the first set, even leading 23:19, Osijek pulled off a comeback with a 6-point streak—highlighted by powerful blocks from Viloria and a decisive ace from Janković—to steal the set.
Fueled by this momentum, Mursa dominated the second set, cruising to a 25:17 win. Despite a strong response from Mladost in the third—winning 25:20—Osijek regained control in the fourth and sealed the match with a confident 25:19 finish.
Head coach Ratko Peris praised his team’s comeback spirit, especially in the first set, which he described as the turning point. On the other side, Mladost’s coach Radovan Gačić acknowledged the missed chances and expressed confidence in his team’s ability to bounce back in the next match.
Stat leaders for Mursa included Leo Andrić with 19 points, Wojcik with 18, and three players with 10 each. Mladost’s top scorers were Chandrinos (13) and Jovović (10). Osijek also outperformed Mladost in blocks (16-10), attack points (47-36), and aces (9-6).
Game 3 is set for Thursday, April 24, in Zagreb, where Mladost hopes to keep the series alive.
