SUI W: Grbac steps in to replace injured Antonijevic

by WoV

Croatia’s Ana Grbac will fill in the gap left by Serbian-born setter Ana Antonijevic in the roster of Switzerland’s Volero ZÜRICH. The 26-year old Grbac is returning to Zurich and will be a pivotal player for Volero as they are just about to start a 2014/2015 season where they will join also the actions of the 2015 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League.

Antonijevic ruptured her Achilles tendon shortly before Volero’s players travelled to Brazil for a training camp and an eventual speedy recovery was immediately ruled out by the doctors. She is currently getting back on track but won’t be able to support the team in this year’s CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League. Grbac is stepping in for Antonijevic and will join the ranks of Volero for the second time in her career after playing for the team from Switzerland’s largest city also from 2009 through 2011.

“Only a couple of hours after this serious injury was diagnosed to Antonijevic, Grbac already knew where she would spend the coming season,” Volero President Stav Jacobi says. “We have signed a very experienced player who already knows a lot about the work we perform in our team. This was a deciding factor as we have entered the last stages of our preparations for the coming season. She will adjust to the team much better and much faster than any other “foreign” player would do”.
