In match truly befitting a final, Antigua and Barbuda brought their A game to the table, and made the Dominicans dig deep to keep their unbeaten record in place.
But it was the same outcome in favour of Dominica when both teams met in the opening salvo of the tournament.
A proud Assistant Coach of the Dominica team, Jefffrey Edmonds expressed joy at his team’s success.
“It is a good feeling to win and I have to commend the players for their efforts with some having to play through injuries,” Edmonds commented.
In staying unbeaten, Edmonds thought the Antiguans put up a good showing in the championship match, but his team made fewer errors, which helped them cross the line first.
Not resting on his laurels, Edmonds admitted that his team still has to iron out the kinks which showed up in the tournament.
“We still have to work to do, especially with our movements and we have to get with it, as the upcoming tournaments will be bigger and the competition will be harder”, Edmonds said.
Head Coach of the Antigua and Barbuda team, Esron Gittens was magnanimous in his team’s defeat in the final.
“It was a bit unfortunate that we did not win the gold ; we lost but the girls can feel proud of themselves and represented the country well,” Gittens said.
“Taking second place seeing where we were having lost our first two matches, we finished well tonight, we played with a lot of intensity”, the Antiguan Head Coach added.
In reflecting on the earlier part of the tournament, Gittens said: “We could have competed with everybody, but we were a little bit complacent in the very first two games”.
Gittens said his team will be bolstered by the time they are next in set of competitions come around.
Dominica and Antigua and Barbuda next assignment is the ECVA Finals which will be held in Antigua and Barbuda later this year.
The two, along with third place British Virgin Islands go forth to the second round of World Championships Qualifiers to be held in 2013.
