„Reds“ were favorites before the game and defeated the opponent by 3-0, with partial 25-20, 25-19 and 25-14, lifting trophy in this competition for the 15th time.

Benfica had to overcome three obstacles to win the trophy. Portuguese Cup had Final 8 instead of usual Final Four, so the team from Lisbon needed to beat Vitória S. de Guimarães in quarterfinals (3-0), AJ Fonte do Bastardo in semis (3-1) and finaly Espinho.

This was Benfica’s second trophy this season after it won national Super Cup. League title is still an option since Benfica is on the second place in the standings.

Benfica will now focus its attention on European competition. It travels to Greece for the second leg of Challenge Cup quarter-finals against M.G.S. Ethnikos Alexandroupolis.

Benfica needs to win only one set (first match in Portugal ended by 3-0) to make history and qualify for the semi-finals.
