Brazil qualified for the Finals of the FIVB World League on Friday after France were taken to five sets by Italy in a Pool C match in Dallas. France’s 3-2 (29-31, 25-23, 25-18, 21-15, 15-12) victory over Italy means that if they finish second to USA in Pool C, they can only get a maximum of 25 points. Brazil have already completed their fixtures in Pool B, finishing on 26 points behind leaders Poland. No other team can finish second with 26 points.

France still have an outside chance of clinching a place in the Finals if they win their last two matches. They will face USA on Saturday and Korea on Sunday. USA beat Korea in a tough match on Friday, winning 3-0 (32-30, 26-24, 25-22) to raise their record to 8-2 and 23 points. France are now 7-3 on 19 points. If USA lose their last two matches, France could overtake them.

Germany defeated Argentina 3-0 on Friday to stay top of Pool D and now only need a point from their final two matches (against winless Portugal on Saturday and Bulgaria on Sunday) to clinch a spot in the Finals.

In other matches on Friday, Russia beat Cuba 3-1, Bulgaria defeated Portugal 3-1 and Serbia rolled over Japan 3-0.
