Peru – Kenya
Meeting in the competition for the first time in history, it was an even affair only in the third set in whom Kenya trailed by 11-4 and managed to recover and lead 17-16!
After being up 19-17, Kenya wasn’t able to carry on and extend the match to a fourth set, with Peru taking the third 25-23 and the match 3-0.
Ángela Leyva scored 22 points, while the MVP of Africa Nations Cup, Everlyne Makuto, scored a team-high 11 for Kenya.
Colombia made a winning debut in the same pool with a straight-set (25-18, 25-16, 25-18) victory over hosts Mexico.
Cindy Ramírez and Amanda Coneo contributed 12 points each for the winning team that had good service game, while Alejandra Segura and Lizbeth Sainz both scored nine for Mexico.
