MNE: Turkey’s girls claim Balkan Championship

Turkey claimed on Saturday the top position on the podium of the Balkan Girls' Youth Championship sponsored by Halkbank and held through this week in Bar. Turkey did so by edging Serbia in the final match that determined the final composition of the top three.

A total of 9 teams participated in the tournament starting their campaign via three preliminary groups of three teams each. Greece, Turkey and Serbia finished the Pool play in first place and the second best team across the three preliminary groups, Bulgaria, also advanced to the next phase of the competition. Serbia and Turkey hammered their opponents Greece and Bulgaria in the semis and fully deserved to play in the final.

In the bronze medal match, Bulgaria cruised past Greece in a tight match (3:2) and settled for third. In the final match, Turkey hammered a 3:0 win (25-19, 25-23, 25-17) to edge their opponents from Serbia and re-claim the Balkan crown after four years.
