The South American powerhouse defeated Poland in an exhausting Pool B encounter, 3-1 (25-20, 21-25, 25-23, 26-24), in 2017 Montreux Volley Masters, one of the strongest annual preparatory tournaments in the world.
Led by Vôlei Nestlé/Osasco receiver Tandara Caixeta, who scored 21 points, Brazil settled at the top of their pool, so far. The outcome of tomorrow’s clash between Germany and Thailand will give the answer to the question if the South Americans will stay there. Natalia Mędrzyk, receiver of Impel Wrocław, was the best scorer in Poland with 19 points.
As for Pool A, reigning champions China and debutants Argentina scored wins. Even without stars like Zhu Ting, Hui Ruoqi or Zhang Changning, the Rio 2016 gold medalists China easily defeated hosts Switzerland 3-0 (25-15, 25-16, 25-16). A 20-year-old Jiangsu opposite Gong Xiangyu was the best scorer in the Asian team with 12 points. Maja Storck, the opposite from Sm’Aesch Pfeffingen, collected 13 for Switzerland.
Argentina prevailed over The Netherlands in a thrilling match that closed Day 1, 3-2 (22-25, 25-27, 25-14, 25-23, 15-9).
