The opener of the 2020/21 TAURON Liga regular season, yesterday, brought a huge upset, and such a trend continued in the remaining matches.
DPD Legionovia Legionowo surpassed the reigning champions Grupa Azoty Chemik Police by a 3-2 (27-25, 19-25, 19-25, 25-22, 17-15). This was the first-ever victory of Legionovia over Chemik. Thus, the team from Legionowo showed that last season’s ranking (the fourth), the highest in the club’s history, wasn’t a coincidence.
Olivia Różański led the winning side with 30 points, including 4 blocks. Serbian Jovana Brakočević-Canzian tallied 29 points for Chemik, while Iga Wasilewska made 6 blocks.
BKS STAL Bielsko-Biała took care of another surprising outcome of Round 2 as they swept the bronze medalists ŁKS Commercecon Łódź. The losing side changed the squad a lot compared to the last season, hiring some well-known names of the Polish volleyball, but also a few foreigners. As for Bielsko-Biała, they strengthened their roster mostly with the players from the second division.
Magdalena Janiuk top-scored for Bielsko-Biała with 15 points (77 % attack), including 4 blocks. Serbian Katarina Lazović notched 12 points for ŁKS. Her compatriot Nađa Ninkovuić, as well as Klaudia Alagierska, made 4 blocks apiece.
