The management of Jastrzębski informed that head coach Gardini was dismissed from running the first team. The current PlusLiga champions explained the decision to sack an Italian expert as the result of an analysis of the current situation of the team, the way the team was managed, as well as sports results at a key moment in the season. This happened just 2 days before Game 2 of the quarter-finals of the 2021/22 PlusLiga playoffs against Trefl Gdańsk in which one of Gardini’s assistants, the physical preparation coach, Nicola Giolito will command Jastrzębski.

On Wednesday, the Jastrzębie-Zdrój side unexpectedly lost the first match of the series to Trefl in their own hall. Earlier, Gardini’s team, plagued by injuries and diseases, lost 3 matches in one week to the fiercest rivals Grupa Azoty ZAKSA Kędzierzyn-Koźle: once in PlusLiga after which they dropped the first place in the standings and twice in semi-finals of the CEV Champions League after which they got eliminated.

Gardini became the Jastrzębski head coach in January 2021. Under his guidance, the team won its 2nd Polish Championship in history, and that was after a 17-year drought.
