It was a night of emotions in Katowice. For one team, a dominant finish to the regular season. For the other, a tough goodbye to Poland’s top volleyball league.
ZAKSA Kędzierzyn-Koźle showed no mercy, sweeping GKS Katowice 3:0 in what turned out to be the hosts’ final PlusLiga match—ending their nine-year run in the elite division.
The scoreboard tells the story: GKS Katowice – ZAKSA Kędzierzyn-Koźle 0:3 (19:25, 8:25, 16:25)
Katowice started with heart. Krzysztof Gibek and Damian Domagała fought for every point, and the fans could feel the passion. But ZAKSA, led by a composed Marcin Janusz and the explosive Igor Grobelny, quickly took control. The second set was a blowout—25:8—with Grobelny serving up five aces in a row and silencing the home crowd.
Even as coach Andrea Giani rotated in some bench players for the third set, ZAKSA didn’t let up. Young guns and Chitigoi stepped up, and there was simply no stopping the wave of momentum. Grobelny took home MVP honors.
