Zagumny announced earlier that he will say goodbye to professional volleyball at the end of the season and this day is very close. One-time World Championship, European Championship and World League winner will play his last match on April 9 when his team ONICO AZS Politechnika Warszawska faces GKS Katowice in the rematch of the Polish Men’s Volleyball Championship (PlusLiga) playoff for the 9th place. After retiring, Zagumny will take over a position of a Sporting Director of his current team.

“This position appeared on the horizon recently. I considered playing another season or switching to other work. I think this proposal is perfect for me. I am from Warsaw. Although I haven’t lived here for 20 years, I feel Warsovian. My father coached Politechnika. Family tradition of running the club will be upheld,” he said for sport.pl.

In Politechnika, Zagumny will collaborate with Stéphane Antiga, who coached him in the Polish NT and with whom he took gold medal in the 2014 FIVB World Championship.

“From the marketing point of view it is a very good move. Will he be a good coach? Time will tell. It is known that coaches have a heavy piece of bread. For my part, I will help him as much as I can,” Zagumny added.

Best setter of the 2008 Beijing Olympics does not plan to become coach.

“I hope I will not have to. Now, I will help Stéphane (Antiga) prepare for the season because he will not be able. Obligations with the Canadian team will not allow him to do everything in full,” Zagumny stated.
