It is certainly the biggest transfer in Russia in 2016. Alexander Butko parted ways with Lokomotiv Novosibirsk and joined Zenit Kazan! Experienced setter explained the reasons for such a move in his statement for the official website of the Novosibirsk powerhouse.

“Zenit officials came to me and offered me a deal. After that, two clubs started negotiations and eventually agreed all terms of my transfer. I spent almost eight seasons in Lokomotiv, and during the time the city and the club have become my family. But, nothing could be done. This is a life of professional athlete. It is necessary to set certain goals and objectives, to go further, to develop… And the time has come in my career that I needed to change something. It was a very hard decision. I will not hide, I really wanted to finish this season in Lokomotiv, but Zenit insisted that I join them immediately. I want to thank the management of Lokomotiv for letting me go,” said Butko.
