Over the past few years we have witnessed many situations in which volleyball clubs decided to withdraw from European competitions. And, now we have another one, this time in Russia.
Fekel Novy Urengoy will not play in the 2017/18 CEV Challenge Cup. This club is actually the reigning champion of the CEV Challenge Cup, while the reason they do not want to participate again in this competition is the lack of motive.
“Last season we won the trophy, while one year before we played in the Finals. Therefore, we do not see how we can motivate our players to once again participate in the CEV Challenge Cup. We will focus on the Russian Superleague and try to qualify for the CEV Cup or even for the CEV Champions League,” said Fakel Director Nikolay Karpanov.
