“Zenit KAZAN has set very high goals for this season and hence we need to avoid any risks and make sure the group won’t be sidelined by any other injury. David Lee will be helping us only in the CEV Volleyball Champions League; since we have very clear rules that limit the number of foreign players he won’t be eligible to play in the domestic arena” says General Director Oleg Bryzgalov.
Lee is well-known in Russia having spent the last three seasons in this country, playing for Lokomotiv NOVOSIBIRSK, Kuzbass KEMEROVO and lastly Dinamo MOSCOW. He recently participated in the 2012 FIVB Club World Championship by representing Al Rayyan of Qatar.
The American middle blocker did not travel to Innsbruck to play there against Hypo Tirol in the fourth round of action for Pool A, so his debut is scheduled for December 5 as Zenit KAZAN will be playing host to VfB FRIEDRICHSHAFEN. Lee is the fifth US American player joining the club from the capital city of Tatarstan, after Lloy Ball (2006-2011), Clayton Stanley (2006-2010), Reid Priddy (2010-2012) and Matthew Anderson, who had moved to Kazan this season.
