It was not easy for Serbian players to speak about EuroVolley after they lost the semifinal game agaiinst Russia. You could see the sorrow in their eyes, still you could also see that they are all well aware the tournament is not over yet.

Maja Ognjenović, the captian of Serbia, stated for WorldofVolley that her team were simply not good enough in the semifinal.

“It was a tough match as we expected. Russia is a very serious opponent with lot of quality players. I am sorry that we could not play as we know. We found some rhythm in the third set, but it was not enough, because we opened the fourth set pretty badly. I do not know whether it was some kind of pressure that made us repeat same mistakes two games in a row. We were not relaxed on the court and therefore we could not reach our real game level.”

She added that the crucial thing after this defeat is to forget it soon as possible.

We lost the first and the second set by 25:23… We had a close game, despite we were not playing good… But there is no time for regrets, we are playing against Turkey for the bronze. We know them pretty well, and we both suffered tough defeats in semifinals. It is only a question who will manage to recover more quickly. No one will lack motivation as it is a game for the medal. Quite a big thing. I do not want to relive the 2013 EuroVolley when we lost against Belgium in the bronze medal match. We have grown as a team since then and I really think that we deserve a medal.”
