Fenerbahce-vs-Halkbank
Fenerbahçe hosted Halkbank in the first round of the 2019/20 AXA Sigorta Efeler Ligi regular season and got off on the right foot by claiming 3-1 (29-27, 26-28, 25-22, 25-21) win in as much as 2 hours and 21 minutes of a play! Halkbank failed to take revenge on Fenerbahçe for losing the playoff semifinals last season, by which their three-year domination in the league was over. Still, the team from Ankara was close to taking more than one set knowing that Fenerbahçe won the first set after 23-23 and third set after 23-22. The hosts had five double-digit players. Dutchman Wouter ter Maat scored the most points out of the quintet (26 points). As for Halkbank, Metin Toy made 21 points, including 4 kill blocks.
Young opposite hitter Adis Lagumdžija who drew a lot of attention to himself at the recent EuroVolley in which he had some monster outputs wearing the jersey of Turkey National Team, such as 40 points against Finland, led Arkas Spor to a four-set win against Tokat Belediye Plevne by chipping in 21 points (5 aces). Bulgarian Velizar Chernokozhev and Slovakian Július Firkaľ tallied 15 points apiece for the losing side.
Just like in the previous few years, Ziraat Bankası entered the season as one of the main title favorites. Cuban Yadrian Escobar stood out for the Ankara team in its straight-set (3-0: 25-11, 25-13, 25-18) win against İstanbul Büyükşehir Belediyesi Spor Kulübü. He finished the match with 18 points through an impressive attack success rate of 85% (17/20)!
Swedish opposite hitter Fredrick Gustavsson made the heaviest output in the opening round by scoring nearly one-third of all Arhavi Voleybol’s points in a 3-0 defeat to Bursa Büyükşehir Belediyesi. He recorded 25 points, while the entire team of Arhavi scored 77!
