Cizre Belediyesi shocked bronze medalists Fenerbahçe HDI Sigorta in Round 14 of the 2022–23 AXA Sigorta Efeler Ligi Metin Görgün Sezonu. Those among you who closely follow the Turkish Championship will immediately notice a modified name for the competition compared to what it read before the winter break. The remainder of the season will honor the late country’s national team member (85 caps), Metin Görgün, who committed suicide on October 31 at the age of 61. The Şırnak-based club defeated Fenerbahçe in four sets, claiming their sixth victory and disrupting the momentum of renowned rivals who remain outside the top four, ensuring playoff participation.

Cizre, who are ranked ninth in the standings at the moment, were led today by Cuban Osmany Uriarte (18 points), while a 40-year-old veteran Kemal Kayhan recorded five blocks. The side from Istanbul was highlighted by Portuguese Alexandre Ferreira, who tallied 22 points.
