VNL W: Türkiye Survives Five-Set Battle

Türkiye kicked off their 2026 FIVB Women’s Volleyball Nations League campaign with a comeback 3-2 victory over the Dominican Republic.

The Turkish team made a strong start by claiming the opening set 25-17 but found itself trailing after the Dominican Republic won the next two sets 25-20 and 25-16. Türkiye responded when it mattered most, taking a closely fought fourth set 25-23 before securing the deciding set 15-11 to complete the comeback.

Played at Arena Nilson Nelson in Brasília, Brazil, the match lasted 118 minutes and provided one of the most competitive contests of the opening day of the tournament.

Yaprak Erkek led Türkiye’s offense with a match-high 21 points and was the most productive attacker on the court. İlkin Aydın added 16 points, while Defne Basyolcu contributed 18 points. Flormarie Heredia Colon led Dominican Republic with 17 points, and Yonkaira Paola Peña Isabel and Jineiry Martinez added 15 points each.
