With there just under two more years until Los Angeles hosts the 2028 Olympic Games, many nations have been working hard to ensure they have a representative at the Games in the volleyball discipline.
Naturally, countries are competitive and want to qualify for the Games to showcase their ability to produce quality players and to attempt to win the gold (or at least a medal). This year’s Games could be a little more significant than others because they are being held in a location where the sport tends to do well.
Volleyball is often one of the sports that many take notice of, especially in markets like the US, where the game is played at an elite level at the college level. Many of the games played in the NCAA are often broadcast, while there can be a decent number in attendance.
With the rise of sports betting, like the sites available at the Betting.net site directory, the addition of the next Games being in America could appeal to prospective punters like the FIFA World Cup did this past summer.
The field for indoor and beach volleyball across men’s and women’s events is yet to be fully confirmed, although only a few more competitions remain.
Indoor Volleyball State of Play
As of now, both the men’s and women’s fields have had six of their 12 respective slots filled. The next three spots will be filled after the FIVB Volleyball World Cup, which is scheduled for August and September 2027. The final three spots for both disciplines will be claimed by those highest in the world rankings just before the Games who failed to qualify from tournament play.
In the men’s, the following nations have secured their spot:

- Cuba – 2026 Men’s NORCECA Volleyball Championship
- Brazil – winners of 2026 Men’s South American Volleyball Championship

- Poland – winners of 2026 Men’s European Volleyball Championship
Women’s:
- US – hosts
- Canada – winners of 2026 Women’s NORCECA Volleyball Championship
- Thailand – winners of 2026 AVC Women’s Volleyball Continental Championship
- Egypt – winners of 2026 Women’s African Nations Volleyball Championship
- Turkey – winners of 2026 Women’s European Volleyball Championship
- Brazil – winners of 2026 Women’s South American Volleyball Championship
Beach Volleyball State of Play
A total of 24 teams per gender will compete in the beach volleyball event at the 2028 LA Games. It’s still very early days in this event, as only a handful of teams have qualified through events so far. However, 14 of the 24 in each discipline will be selected via the FIVB Beach Volleyball Olympic Ranking come the end of March 2028. Three more spots will be made available after this through a series of Olympic qualifiers, held in May and June at three different locations, with three sets of dates.

The next tournament to determine a qualifier across both disciplines is the 2026 NORCECA Beach Volleyball Championships, to be held in November 2026 in Puerto Rico.
