Renowned Spanish coach Fernando Munoz is charting a new course in his career, transitioning to another continent to steer the ship of the Egyptian powerhouse, Al Ahly. The challenge ahead? To contend for dominance in the trophy-laden landscape of Egyptian and African volleyball.
Munoz arrives at Al Ahly following a stint as head coach of the Romanian team, Dinamo Bucuresti. His previous leadership roles also include the women’s team, Feel Volley Alcobendas, during the 2021/2022 season and the Belgium national team in 2021. However, Munoz is perhaps best known for his tenure from 2011 to 2019 as head coach of the Spain Men’s National Team.
Over the years, Munoz’s coaching career has been adorned with a litany of achievements. The pinnacle came when he secured the double crown – championship and cup – two years in a row (2018 and 2019) with Greece’s Olympiacos S.F.P., earning him the title of Best Coach in the league in 2019. His coaching prowess was further cemented with four league titles, two Cups and Super Cups in Spain with Unicaja Costa de Almería, a league title and a Cup with Turkey’s Arkas Spor, and the title in the 2009 CEV Challenge Cup, again with Arkas Spor.
