After three unforgettable seasons, Marcelo Mendez is parting ways with JSW Jastrzębski Węgiel at the close of the 2024/2025 season. The 61-year-old Argentinian coach leaves behind a legacy marked by triumph, teamwork, and transformation.
Mendez’s tenure with the Polish volleyball powerhouse began in 2022, and in just three years, he guided the team to a glittering haul: two Polish Championship titles (2023, 2024), two Club Vice-Championships of Europe, a Polish SuperCup, the Polish Cup, and a Champions League bronze.
His impressive career spans continents—from 12 trophy-laden years at Brazil’s Sada Cruzeiro to Olympic bronze with Argentina in 2021 and a South American Championship in 2023.
Reflecting on his departure, Mendez shared, “I truly felt at home here. Working with this club, the staff, the president, and especially the players has been something very special. We achieved a lot together—three incredible years I’ll always cherish.”
Club President Adam Gorol praised Mendez’s impact, saying, “Marcelo helped build something extraordinary. His name will forever be etched in our club’s history.”
Looking ahead, Mendez is expected to take the reins at Italian giants Itas Trentino, replacing Fabio Soli, who now leads Verona and serves as head coach of Slovenia’s national team.
