The Sports Security Committee of the Governor of Istanbul Province has decided not to let the fans of the away teams into the hall in the women’s and men’s matches to be played in the city this season between Fenerbahçe and Galatasaray.

Such a decision was made as “Galatasaray, with the letter of interest numbered, declared their demands not to accept the spectators of the rival teams in the competitions that the volleyball senior women’s and men’s teams will play with Fenerbahçe Opet and Fenerbahçe HDI Sigorta in the 2022-23 season.“

As a result of this decision, Fenerbahçe Opet’s fans weren’t able to take part in the away stands in the sixth-round match of the AXA Sigorta Efeler Ligi, which was hosted by Galatasaray HDI Sigorta three days ago.

When teams of football and basketball branches of Fenerbahçe and Galatasaray meet, it’s forbidden to accept guest spectators due to the negativities and physical confrontations inside and outside sports venues between the fans in previous years and the tension between the fans due to the rivalry, which is the biggest sports rivalry in Turkey.
