After five years, Giovanni Guidetti will no longer be at the helm of the Turkey Women’s Volleyball National Team.
After the meeting of the President of the Turkish Volleyball Federation, Mehmet Akif Üstündağ, and Giovanni Guidetti, who has been working as the head coach of the Turkey National Team since 2017, it was mutually decided to part ways. The Turkish federation (TVF) informed that details will be announced later at a joint press conference between Üstündağ and Guidetti.
What might be the reason for the end of the collaboration is the fact that the TVF certainly hoped for more from the national team in the last international season. In the FIVB VNL, they took fourth place, and at the FIVB World Championship, they weren’t in the medal ‘zone’ after losing in the quarter-finals to the USA (0-3). This caused quite a few voices that Guidetti might lose his job. This information was confirmed on Friday, even though the renowned Italian expert had a contract until the 2024 Olympics.
Guidetti can boast of two CEV European Championship medals with the Turkey Women (bronze in 2017 and silver in 2019) and a silver in the 2018 FIVB VNL.
