In a spectacular showcase of resilience and sportsmanship, Sir Susa Vim Perugia has been crowned the champions of the Del Monte Supercoppa 2023, seizing the inaugural trophy of the 2023/2024 volleyball season. The grand final at the Biella Forum was nothing short of a rollercoaster, as fans witnessed an epic 2-3 (25-22, 25-23, 21-25, 32-34, 12-15) comeback victory against Cucine Lube Civitanova.
Despite trailing by two sets, Perugia displayed a remarkable turnaround in a match filled with nerve-wracking moments. With the odds stacked against them, Coach Lorenzetti’s squad showed exceptional composure under pressure. Their determination shone through as they clawed back from the brink, levelling the match at 2-2 and pushing the contest to a gripping tie-break.
The 5,000 spectators were on the edge of their seats as Perugia overturned a potential defeat into a glorious win. Cucine Lube Civitanova, having missed six match points in the fourth set and relinquishing a 20-17 lead in the third, were left ruing missed opportunities. Perugia’s stalwarts, Wilfredo Leon and Wassim Ben Tara, each with 21 points, alongside Kamil Semeniuk’s 20-point contribution, were instrumental in this turnaround. Adis Lagumdzija’s game-high 22 points for Civitanova was commendable but ultimately fell short against Perugia’s tenacious team effort.
