Apart from Denk Academy Maringá, there’s one more club competing in the 2019/20 Brazilian Men’s Volleyball Championship that faces financial difficulties – no less than the titleholders EMS Taubaté Funvic!

Bruno Voloch revealed in his blog that the economic crisis of Taubaté is more serious than assumed: the Superliga Masculina champions didn’t receive several tranches from the main sponsor and are in great difficulty because they are late with paying salaries to the players.

Initially, it was said from the club that only “a couple“ of salaries weren’t paid to the players. However, Voloch learned that, for instance, the Moroccan international Mohamed El Hachdadi complained about four months of unpaid salary and even asked for the termination of the contract, which would be in accordance with the rules of the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) that allow players to free themselves from any commitment to a club if the contract hasn’t been respected.

Despite all, Taubaté successfully competes this season, chasing Sada Cruzeiro for the top spot in the championship before the playoffs. As Voloch said, the team from the State of São Paulo will try to solve the crisis by acquiring special funding from the city of Taubaté who will look for other sponsors willing to invest in the club.

Recall that one more Superliga team faced the same problem this season.
