The CEV has given details of its premier club competition, the Champions League, yesterday. What they also revealed the same day was the formula of the second and third-tier – the CEV Cup and the Challenge Cup.

The 2021 edition of the CEV Cup will feature 32 clubs per gender that are to be drawn for the 16th finals, which will include the losers from the early stages of the Champions League and clubs that applied to the competition from the Challenge Cup. Each round, starting from the 16th finals, will be played in the home and away match format.

As for the Challenge Cup, the first round will differ for men and women. The men’s competition will get underway with a pre-16th finals round in which a single second-round doubleheader is to be played due to the fact that 33 clubs signed up. This round is to be followed by the 16th finals. Women will set off with the 16th finals with 27 participants out of which five will get a bye. Each round will consist of home and away matches.
