Although the International Qualifier has just started, Argentina may have already made a decisive step towards gaining a ticket for the Tokyo Olympic Games. The South American side defeated main contenders for the top spot in Pool F in Ningbo, China – the national team of Canada.

Argentina were led by an attacking power of Facundo Conte who scored 24 points through nearly 62% attack success rate. Nicholas Hoag made 19 points for Canada, including 3 kill blocks and 3 aces.

In the opener of the qualifications, the home team of China defeated Finland by 3-1 in the same pool to make a promising start of the tournament.

A birthday boy on the Asian side, Jiang Chuan, marked the encounter with a game-high 25 points, which is the exact number of years that he has turned today. He was especially fired up in a decisive 4th set in which he poured in 8 points. Zhang Zhejia set up 4 kill blocks. In Finland, Samuli Kaislasalo scored 19 points.
