Hyundai Construction Hillstate dethroned two-time consecutive winners KGC Ginseng Corporation at the national Cup, also known as the KOVO Cup (official name this year: 2019 Suncheon Saemaeul Geumgo Cup).

In the final that was held in the city of Suncheon and lasted for 2 hours and 22 minutes, Hyundai prevailed over KGC with a 3-2 (25-18, 25-18, 20-25, 23-25, 18-16). Even 37 points from Italian Valentina Diouf were not enough for KGC to win the match. The newcomer in the squad (came from IBK Altos) Go Ye-Rim tallied 26 points for the winners and was voted MVP of the tournament. The Spaniard Milagros Collar was just behind her in the scoresheet with 23 points (20 points in the attack, 2 aces and 1 block).

The team based in Suwon did not lose a single game in the tournament. They have achieved all five victories (3 in the pool stage and 2 in the eliminations), including the one against the national champions Heungkuk Life Pink Spiders in the semifinals. Interestingly, four out of Hyundai’s five wins were recorded in the tie-break! The only team against whom they played less than five sets in the campaign was Yangsan City Hall (not a top division member): 3-1. This was Hyundai’s third title in the KOVO Cup and first after five years (2006, 2014, 2019).
