Yuji Nishida, the main star of the Japan Men’s Volleyball National Team, got seriously injured in a test match in his home country.

Japanese fans are in fear as the key player of their national team, Nishida, sustained an injury two and a half months before the Olympic Games in Tokyo.

A 21-year-old opposite hitter, a new member of Italy’s Tonno Callipo Calabria Vibo Valentia (most likely), came into contact with Akihiro Yamauchi as they both jumped in the block in the test match between the teams composed of candidates for the Japan National Team roster, and fell. Nishida was taken off the court by his teammates, experiencing a lot of pain. Initial examinations showed that he sprained the right ankle but, as the head coach Yuichi Nakagaichi stated for the media in the country, there is no abnormality in the bone. However, the time of Nishida’s return to the court is yet unknown and will be determined after a detailed examination.

What seems like a certain thing is that the prospect will miss a large part of the upcoming FIVB Volleyball Nations League, if not the entire event. Will he miss out on the Olympics is the question without the answer for now.
