Russia men’s team head coach Vladimir Alekno said that the Russian volleyball stopped developing for some reason after the London Olympics… Recall that Zbornaya won the gold medal in 2012, while this summer they finished at the 4th place at the Rio 2016 volleyball tournament.
How did that downfall happen?
The Russian media asked Ivan Zaytsev about his opinion, while the former player of Dinamo Moscow gave a very interesting statement.
“I was thinking about what Alekno said. About that idea that the Russian volleyball is not developing. There are certainly many factors, but I think that Zenit Kazan is one of them. The things are looking good for this club, because they have money and a fantastic coach (Alekno). They are indeed very strong, but they are killing the Russian Championship. The other big clubs such are Dinamo Moscow, Belogorie Belgorod, Gazprom-Yugra just can’t come near Zenit Kazan,” said Zaytsev for R-Sport.

zenit is no doubt the powerful club in russia and the top club in europe right now. after voronkov coach the national team i think the players confidence just gone right now alekno did a good job won the european qualification, 7th in world league and 4th in rio. i think alekno will figure it out what is the real problem. give alekno time and for sure russia will rise like a phoenix
Zaytsev did not mention that Zenit has 2 world class players who make a big difference LEON and ANDERSON without them Zenit would probably play at the same level as other too russian teams
Ivan such a high level player couldn’t find out the two key players make a diffrence but you find out this issue…you again again write leon aand anderson are the most important reason that zenit is such a strong club and Alekno is not important… Ok now every one know your oponion abut zenit and alekno. You can be sure every one knows…
