In an interview for “R-Sport”, a legendary Russian opposite who retired at the end of previous season, at one point had to address to the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) for Therapeutic Use Exemptions (TUE) which allows athletes to treat illnesses or conditions that require them to take particular prohibited substances.

“It’s very controversial issue. I myself was in a situation, and it is common practice, to send a request to the WADA, with the diagnosis of a physician, to get permission when it was necessary to treat shoulder and use shots that are on the Prohibited List. I find it difficult to talk about it, is it correct or not. We do not know which diagnoses other athletes had and for what reasons they were allowed to take these drugs. There are still many things which remained unknown…” Gamova said.

Last month, the hacker group Fancy Bears published the results of WADA by invading into its ADAMS (The Anti-Doping Administration & Management System) storage system. They implied that the agency has allowed several well-known athletes, including American tennis players Serena and Venus Williams, the Spanish tennis player Rafael Nadal, American gymnast Simone Biles, British riders Chris Froome and Bradley Wiggins, the British athlete Mo Farah, Serbian basketball player Miloš Teodosić and others to use prohibited drugs for TUE.
