After parting ways with Universidad César Vallejo, a club in her home country which she coached for several years, Málaga joined their rivals in the national championship Liga Nacional Superior de Voleibol (LNSV) Sporting Cristal. But, the legendary coach that led youth national teams of Peru, and a senior team as well, was appointed as the Head of the entire volleyball section of Sporting.
At the same time, Sporting parted ways with the coach José Antonio Cáceres and hired Martín Escudero instead.
