Harrison Peacock is one of many players in the national team of Australia who has been playing abroad, but only one of few who is currently in a home country. The „Volleyroos“ setter had a serious injury, two years ago, that stopped him from making a great impact in one of the strongest leagues in the world – Italian Serie A1.

As Peacock said in an interview for WorldofVolley, the injury is behind him and he is ready for the new challenges, starting with the 2015 FIVB World League. And he has found the new club in Europe, in another important league!

What do you think about performances of an Australian national team in the World League so far?

„I think we are improving in every game. We wren’t quite happy with our first two matches in Adelaide against Italy, but I think from there we have built as a team. We improve things in every match and starting to find a rhythm. Against Serbia was not our best day, but in general we keep moving upwards.“

There is amixture of young and a little bit more experienced players in your national team. What is the atmposhere and the ratio between these two groups of players?

„It’s great. This team is very close, we all get along very well. It’s very exciting because there are a lot of young players and the older players are very supportive of the younger guys and they learn from each other. We have very experienced player, Nathan Roberts and he is setting the example for the younger guys.“

You are one of the players who used to play abroad. Since there is no national league in Australia, how those players who stay in a home country prepare for the national team?

„We train at the Autralian Institute of Sport and we have their support. There is a national league, but it’s a low-level, so all the players are looking to play overseas. That’s the pathway for the national team.“

What about those players who play in the national league? Do they have a tryout for the national team?

„We all started as young players playing in that national league and somehow made our way to the national team throughout tryouts that start each season, but if you’re not playing abroad it’s difficult to be at a level where you can play for the national team. So, younger Australians look to play abroad as soon as they can.“

What are your plans for the next season?

„I will hopefully play in Będzin, in Poland, in the ex-club of my head coach. He sort of set it up for me. It hasn’t been released yet, but I’m close.“
