The Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour Elite16 men’s tournament in Ostrava, Czech Republic, concluded with the defending champions and Olympic gold medallists, Anders Mol and Christian Sorum, once again securing the title. The duo held their positions as FIVB World Ranking leaders while successfully defending their Ostrava trophy.
Cherif Younousse and Ahmed Tijan from Qatar clinched the silver medals. This achievement marked the Tokyo 2020 Olympic bronze medallists’ first podium of the season and their fifth since the launch of the Beach Pro Tour last year.
American duo, Miles Partain and Andrew Benesh, successfully fought their way to the podium, beginning their Ostrava journey from the qualifiers and finishing with the bronze.
In a thrilling gold medal match, Mol and Sorum took control of the first set, edging ahead on the scoreboard. However, the seventh-seeded pair, Cherif and Ahmed, staged a comeback in the second set, pushing the match into a third and decisive set. Despite this setback, the Norwegians regained their footing and kept the lead until the end, winning 2-1 (21-15, 19-21, 15-12) thanks to Mol’s kill block.
The third-place game saw Partain and Benesh pitted against the Czech Republic’s crowd favorites, Ondrej Perusic and David Schweiner. Despite the vocal home crowd support, the American pair dominated the match, taking a straight-set victory, 2-0 (21-14, 21-17), and with it, the bronze medal.
