Although they secured the top seed a long time ago, Tours ended the 2018/19 Ligue A Masculine regular season with a 20th victory in a row which came against Montpellier in four sets, partially 25-19, 23-25, 25-23, 25-23, thanks to 24 points from Latvian Hermans Egleskalns.
By suffering a defeat, Montpellier lost the second place in the standings which ultimately went to Ajaccio despite the fact they were free of playing in the last round. Thus, Montpellier will have to face the Ligue A runners-up Chaumont in the playoff quarterfinals.
Rennes, who defeated Nantes-Rezé in straight sets (25-16, 25-20, 25-15) with 19 points (five kill blocks) from Belgian Bram van den Dries, have snatched the No.4 seed.
Ukrainian Andrii Kutsmus pushed Poitiers over Nice (3-0: 25-20, 25-21, 25-22) with 18 points to claim the seventh place and avoid No.1 seed Tours at the beginning of the playoffs.
