He is again on the mission with Jastrzebski Wegiel, trying to dethrone Zaksa and win the championship crown.

You have decided to stay in Jastrzebski Wegiel for this season. How does it feel like to be a part of this team?

“It’s really good to be part of this club. We have an amazing team, stronger compared to the last season so I am happy and ready to play for the best results in the Polish league, Cup and the Champions League.“

Jastrzebski have started the season with a 7-3 score in Plusliga. How would you rate this start of your team?

„Actually, we started really well after the first two games. After these two games, we played against the champions from the last season and we made to many mistakes to win. The next game against Bedzin we played pretty well but afterward, there were two really bad games and that gave us a reason to think about our playing style. Now, we have a 7-3 score we will see how the standings will look like at the end of the regular season.“

Poland won the medal at the EuroVolley. Are you satisfied with that outcome?

„In previous three editions of the European Championship, we didn’t get any medal so in that case we can be satisfied that we took the bronze, but our goal was to play in final and win the title so in the end, we were little disappointed because we know that we had a big chance in this tournament.“

What impact Leon have on the Polish team? How fo you see his role?

„Of course Leon is a great player, that everybody knows. It was his first full season with us and he was an important puzzle in our team. For sure, with him, we have even more power than before but we all realize that he won’t win games only by himself. So we are a great team with him onboard.“

Jastrzebski will be playing in Champions League Pool C, along with Zenit, Halkbank and Maaseik. How far your team can go this season in this competition?

„The first goal for us is to go through the group and play in the playoffs. I believe that we have everything in our hands to do it. On the paper, Zenit is the favorite in this group but we will do everything to win also against them. Everything is possible so we will see after the next draw.“

In the season 2017/2018, you were a member of Ziraat Bankasi. What are your impressions after this experience?

„It was my first season out of my country so I was excited how the things will go. Honestly, it was a really nice experience. We had a good team but during the season we had a lot of problems and after a good start with a 10/10 winning score, injuries just killed us. But still, we played in the final of CEV cup so, in the end, it was not so bad. Personally, I felt good in Turkey, league level was good and I took only good memories from that season.“

Are you planning to play abroad again in the future?

„Sure, why not? I am open for almost all directions so if something interesting will come for sure I will think about it. But now I feel good to play at home in Poland and also I can not say that I will not stay here in the future,“ says Dawid Konarski for WorldofVolley.
