However, it was not the only topic we discussed with the Bulgarian international. Let’s start from the clubs’ season all the way to the national team challenges.

How would you rate the season in Vibo Valentia?

„It was not a successful season for the team. We had some very good games, but we were not able to keep a good level for a long time. We should have done it better.“

The Italian Serie A1 was very strong last season. Do you think that Vibo could make it better at some point of the season?

„Of course we could make it better. I think we had better players than some teams that finished in a better position. Anyway, volleyball is a team sport, we had a lot of ups and downs so we totally deserved our place.“

In the season before joining Vibo, you played in the Russian league. What was your experience there?

„It was a good experience. The Russian league is one of the best in the world. We have done a good job there, reaching the play-offs, so I keep good memories from this season. Despite all of that, it is not easy to play in Russia. Volleyball there is different, very physical. Russia is a huge country and you have to spend a lot of energy to travel to the games.“

You’ve been playing in a few strong leagues so far in your career. If you had to choose what would be the best league in your opinion?

„In the last 2-3 years, it’s definitely the Italian Serie A1. A lot of good players came back from the Russian or the Turkish league. Some top players came for the first time so for me, A1 is now the strongest championship without any doubt.“

Bulgaria will be playing in Olympic Qualification tournament Pool A along with Brazil, Egypt and Puerto Rico. What are the chances of Bulgaria in this group?

„Firstly, we have to beat Egypt and Puerto Rico. We can’t underestimate anyone. Brazil is clearly the best team in this group. They have so many great players, they have won so much. But of course it’s just one game and I believe that we can win against them. Especially at home with our fans’ support.“

Do you have some unfulfilled dreams in volleyball?

„Yes, to win a medal with the Bulgarian national team.“

If you were not a volleyball player, what would you be?

„I am not sure exactly, but something with the sport I believe. I love the sport so much, since I was a child, that I can’t imagine myself doing something else.“
