The course was a big success, and the results prove it in the best possible way. All 18 candidates from 14 countries successfully passed the final examination. Mr. Sergey Titov from Russia, FIVB Refereeing Commission Secretary, acted as the course director, whereas Alexander James Steel from Scotland, President of the FIVB Rules of the Game Commission, was the course instructor. Both of them were impressed by the organization and the facilities available at “Aquastar Danube” hotel in Kladovo.

A total of 18 nominees from 14 countries got the status of International Referee Candidates: Nikola Kozić from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Uladzimir Kukashynau and Kanstantsin Asipchyk of Belarus, Morten Klein of Denmark, Dominik Biegajlo and Sebastijan Widlarz from England, Loic Queste from France, Mirko Till and Janita Richter from Germany, Agnes BatkaiKatona from Hungary, Iris Stojcic and Yael Dotan of Israel, Abbas Ahmad from Kuwait, Daniel Jettkandt from the Netherlands, Szymon Pindral of Poland, Shirlon Hunte from Saint Lucia, Volodymyr Bosenko from Ukraine and Tomislav Popović from Serbia.

During the course, all candidates refereed matches of the 2013 Junior Men Balkan Championship.

Alexander James Steel, President of the FIVB Rules of the Game Commission:

“Since I joined the FIVB I have done courses for many years, and I have to say that the quality of the preparations for this one is better than anything before. The attention to details, the level of cooperation during the course of all the people involved and the level of help of the owner of the hotel was simply fantastic. As for the candidates, this group was as good as any. They tried very hard. Some of them still do not fully understand the rules, but that is why they applied for this course and they improved day by day. We saw it clearly, and I hope some of them will reach the highest level in the future”.

Sergey Titov, FIVB Refereeing Commission Secretary:

“As professionals, we cannot say that we are 100% satisfied, something is always missing, but the general impression is very good. As for the students, I can say that they showed pretty good level of theoretical and practical knowledge. The new generation is coming to the international stage. We hope that they will be successful. Regarding the competition, this was my first time at the Balkan Championship, and I am very satisfied with the quality of Volleyball. Especially the final match, a five setter, very intense. We appointed the best referees for this match, the ones who showed the most at the course, and I think they were very good. Generally, this was a big success at all levels. Thanks to the Volleyball Federation of Serbia for organizing this course”.

The first course for International Referees in 2013 was held in Congo, from July 12th to 21st, the third one will take place in Indonesia, from October 14th thru 22nd, and the fourth in Senegal, from October 2th0 to 31st. The courses for Beach Volleyball referees will be held in Sudan, Philippines and Liechtenstein.
