Mexico were unable to make much impact in the first set with Iran middle blocker Saman Faezi (3) and opposite Reza Ghara (2) dominating a total of eight blocking points as Iran took the set 21-12.
Iran continuted their efficient play in the second set, with wing spiker Mojtaba Mirzajanpour’s serves and hits creating problems for Mexico. Iran built an early lead and powered through the second part of the set to win it 21-10.
The pattern was identical in the third set, Iran efficient and powerful and Mexico simply unable to stop their attacks at the net. Iran won the set 21-14 for their second win of the tournament.
Wing spiker Roberto Rincon led Mexico’s scoring with nine points, but it was the fact that Mexico recorded just one blocking point in three sets, compared to 13 for Iran, that undermined their challenge.
Iran continue their tournament on day three with another early morning assignment, taking on pool B favourites Russia first match on court, while Mexico face Serbia.
