Mia Jerkov for WoV – “I am still evaluating my offers”

by WoV

Mia Jerkov has spent two seasons in Turkey! Is it time for changing the country?

Mia Jerkov is still considering the offer. While she is doing this, let’s see what she said about the recently finished season with her team Fenerbahce.

After beating Galatasaray, Fenerbahce won the third place. Are you satisfied with such an outcome?

Of course I was satisfied with the victory, It is always better to finish the year with a victory than with a loss. However, we knew the series is going to be difficult. Before our series started, Galatasaray qualified for the Champions League Final Four so that was a testament to the way they play and I am happy we showed our level of play and beat them in 2 games to earn the 3rd place and a position for Champions League for next season.“

In the semifinals of the Sultans League, Eczacibasi beat you twice. What decided the games?

In the semifinals, I think Ezcacibasi played better overall. I felt we had good chances coming into that semifinal and we performed better the first match than the second match but nevertheless, Ezcacibasi played competitively and tactically better, they had more rhythm and they beat us. It is not pretty but it is the truth. I wish we could have won the semifinals but this time it did not happen.“

Do you think that the Yellow Angels could have done it better at some points of the season?

I think we could have done much better during this season but we were very much limited by many injuries that happened in the course of the year. Our team was built to be successful and our results did not match the competitiveness of this team. Like I said, many injuries happened that hampered the team and overall results, but this is something that happens and we did our best to overcome any challenges that were coming our way during this year. Life goes on and no one can change the past.

How would you rate your performances in the 2017/2018 season?

I played different positions all year long because of lack of players that we had in the team. If you asked me the same question in the beginning of the year I would have told you that for sure I will be successful only if I play my natural position that I played for years and the one I played in our last match. However after the whole year went by and I worked a lot and learned to enjoy the process, so now I know I can do it all. That’s why I love it all and I appreciate this sport.“

It was your second consecutive season in Turkey. What would be your next career destination?

I am still evaluating my offers, so I did not decide yet where I will be continuing next. I played in the United States, Russia, Italy, South Korea, Japan and Turkey so maybe I will need to return to some of these countries and it will be my pleasure.“

Plans for the summer?

I will go for a quick vacation before I join Croatian National Team. Those are my plans for now.“

She came to fb because unsuccessful jan de brant wanted her in the team but she couldnt give anything. Her level is not sufficient for champions league. Can you imagine that baby olympic girl Natalia Pereira and this 40 years old woman are playing in the same team!!! NO COMMENT!

I agree with BRAZILvolleygirl. She should finish her career or play in Poland, Romania or Indonesia.

Re: @BRAZILvolleygirl you are clueless. She was a last second choice for Fenerbahce after their failed attempt to renew Kim. They couldn’t get any decent receivers/attacker anymore because everyone sign to other teams. Fenerbahce made the wrong choice but it’s not her fault. She was incompatible to the team but made efforts to play. Fenerbahce also suffered from many injuries. Natalia who was injured all season, Eda and the useless Polenn didn’t help. Nootsara wasn’t even the first choice setter of Brandt. It’s Carli Lloyd who got injured in the world grand champions cup. If she was signed with the team, they would have done better as Nootsara was terrible setting to Rahimova. That’s the deal for Fenerbahce. They were lucky to even playing the champions league the following season.

Re: @rivers
Actually, you are wrong. It was known that Kim would leave FB after they finished the league at the first place. I remembered her statements after the final matches, she gave speeches about her leaving. It was not a last moment decision and Jerkov signed with FB in the summer season, so it was a planned transfer. Jerkov came to FB because, unsuccessful jan de brant and jerkov had played together in Bursa for two seasons. He thought that she could be successful at this level because he doesnt know anything about volleyball and we have seen the result! There were plenty of turkish players who were at the same level with jerkov but she was chosen instead of these girls because unsuccesful jan de brant wished that she would manage at this level. Do you understand better now!?

Even in her position she didn” t give anything to the team and complete the playoff matches with a dissapointing performance. Sorry but she shouldn’t be playing in any team at this level. I’ m so happy to hear that se is leacing FBV!

Receiver/Attacker! Do you understand? Give me names who are better than Balkestein, Kim Hill or Robinson? The moment they were gone after Kim Yeon Koung left for Shanghai, the OHs better than them are few. Fenerbahce tried to renew KYK even when she said she won’t return but didn’t get her signature. When that happened all the best outside hitters are gone from the market. Fenerbahce’s mistake was running after KYK. If they didn’t tried to renew her again, they could’ve gotten Robinson,Kosheleva, Michelle Bartsch or even Anne Buijs who were signed by other clubs after KYK signed to Shanghai. If there’s someone they missed it was Dalderoop. The kid signed with Allianz before world grand prix.
