South Korea downed Kazakhstan 3-0 (25-21, 26-24, 25-10) in Pool E, in the last round of Top 8, to advance to the quarter-finals as the top seed, facing Chinese Taipei (fourth seed from Pool F). Kim Yeon-Koung showed an exceptional display, leading Korea with 18 points. Yekaterina Zhdanova made 12 points for Kazakhstan.
Japan outclassed Thailand 3-1 (22-25, 25-20, 25-22, 26-24) in Pool F and scheduled a quarterfinal duel with Vietnam. Sarina Koga highlighted Japan with 26 points. Chatchu-on Moksri topped Thailand with 20 points, while Ajcharaporn Kongyot also had an important but insufficient role in the losing team with six blocks.
As for the two remained quarter-final pairs, No.2 from Pool E, Kazakhstan, will face Pool F’s third seed China while No.2 from Pool F, Thailand, play Pool E’s third seed the Philippines.
