Minas Tênis Clube eliminated Vôlei UM Itapetininga and advanced to the playoff finals of 2020/21 Brazilian Men’s Superliga Banco do Brasil, which will be their first face-off for the national championship title in 12 years. Itapetininga failed to make another upset in the post-season after kicking out Sada Cruzeiro, which was the first-ever time that an 8th-seeded side won the series against the regular-season winners in the playoffs, and got swept in both games of the semis. Cuban Yadrian Escobar scored 22 piunts for Minas in Game 2, while Argentine Nicolás Lazo made 75 % reception (17 digs, 47 % excellent).
EMS Taubaté Funvic will be Minas’ opponents in the title fight as they eliminated 3rd-seed Vôlei Renata with a 2-0 in the series of the semifinals (3-1 and 3-0). Douglas Souza and Felipe Roque helped the club from the State of São Paulo progress to their 2nd successive playoff finals, both scoring 18 points. The latter set up 4 blocks. Thales Hoss was superb in defense, making 86 % reception (21 digs, 1 error, 71 % excellent).
