Itambé Minas needed to turn the match around twice to defeat Vedacit Vôlei Guarulhos in Round 2 of the 2022–23 Brazilian Men’s Volleyball Championship.
The vice-champions, Minas, reacted at the last moment to defeat Guarulhos by 3 sets to 2, turning the match around from 0-1 and 1-2, with partials of 30-32, 25-22, 25-27, 29-27, and 15-6, for the second round of the 2022-23 Superliga 1XBET Masculina. Following a two-hour-38-minute battle (the fourth set lasted for as many as 40 minutes), the Belo Horizonte side maintained the unbeaten record after two games in the competition.
Minas head coach Nery Tambeiro still doesn’t have Cuban outside hitter, Luis Estrada – the club’s main signing of the season – in his best condition. He came in at some points in the match, but he’s still not 100% fit. Another bad news for the Superliga runners-up is the injury of veteran Leandro Vissotto, who left the court at the beginning of the second set. The outside hitter, Henrique Honorato, from Minas, scored 23 points. The opposite, Franco Paese, from Guarulhos, was the top scorer of the match, with 28 hits.
Sada Cruzeiro Vôlei seemed to have the lightest schedule compared to the other title favorites. In the first three rounds, the titleholders got to lock horns with newcomers. Today, they faced Café Vasconcelos/Imepac/Aracoop/Araguari on the road and won 3-1. With the victory in Uberlândia, Cruzeiro reached the full set of six points in two rounds.
Wallace Souza of Cruzeiro top-scored his side with 17 points. Guilherme Santana tallied 16 for Araguari.
After the four-set victory over Apan/Eleva, in which Darlan Souza grounded 29 points and Thiery Nascimento made 4 blocks, Sesi-SP joined the quartet of undefeated clubs in 2022-23.
